Recycling and Regeneration of Waste Sand from Water Glass Casting in Foundries: Saving Energy, Reducing Consumption and Protecting the Environment

Case study
Haihui Group has successfully completed the construction of a 15 t/h wet-process water glass sand recycling production line for a foundry in Shandong. During the design and construction of the project, Haihui Group fully leveraged its R&D strengths, systematically summarising the successes and shortcomings of previous water glass sand recycling projects it had undertaken. By building on these lessons, the company achieved multiple breakthroughs in technical approaches and process flows, bringing the production line’s overall performance to an industry-leading standard.
For foundries, the treatment of waste water glass sand has long been one of the most vexing environmental challenges in production. The 15 t/h water glass sand wet recycling production line constructed by Haihui Group has completely resolved the bottleneck issues associated with the regeneration of old sand. During the production process, the recycling of regenerated water glass sand has significantly reduced the enterprise’s raw material procurement costs and alleviated environmental pressures, with both economic and environmental benefits becoming increasingly apparent.
It is understood that after undergoing wet recycling treatment, recovered water glass foundry waste sand yields two product types: recycled sand and recycled sand fine powder. The comprehensive utilisation rate of waste sand can reach approximately 99%, representing an extremely high level of resource recovery. The remaining 1% of impurities and sludge sediment can still be supplied to cement plants as auxiliary raw materials for further resource utilisation, achieving a zero-waste process throughout the entire cycle. More notably, the silicon content of the recycled sand can reach as high as 98.3%, far exceeding that of traditional mineral sand and virgin sand, demonstrating a clear advantage in quality.
In summary, this wet-process water glass sand recycling production line is characterised by high recycling rates, strong economic returns, significant environmental benefits and low wastewater discharge. The wet-process water glass sand recycling production line constructed by Haihui Group has once again earned high praise from clients, establishing itself as one of the flagship projects for the resource recovery of waste sand in the foundry industry.
