Conversion of an electrostatic precipitator on an alumina calcining furnace into a combined electrostatic-bag filter system, achieving ultra-low emissions

Case study
Upon receiving the project brief, the Dust Collector Division of Haihui Group swiftly mobilised its key technical personnel to undertake project feasibility studies and prepare for implementation. The team first conducted a comprehensive feasibility analysis of the technical proposal for the ultra-low emission retrofit of the electrostatic-bag composite dust collector, thoroughly assessing the on-site conditions, the current state of the equipment, and the challenges involved in the retrofit. Through the collective efforts of all team members, the technical proposal was repeatedly optimised and refined until it was finally finalised. The successful finalisation of the plan marked the first step in the smooth progression of the entire project and laid a solid foundation for subsequent work.
Upon entering the implementation phase, technical staff provided detailed construction drawings and work instructions. Construction personnel executed each process with precision and expertise, whilst company leadership worked on the front line to oversee operations and coordinate resources. The entire team pulled together, united in purpose and working in concert. Faced with practical challenges such as sweltering heat and a temporary shortage of on-site personnel, the team employed scientific scheduling and rational division of labour, ultimately successfully completing the ultra-low emission retrofit of the electrostatic-bag composite dust collector.
“A sharp sword is forged through grinding; the fragrance of plum blossoms comes from the biting cold. ” Following two months of intensive installation and meticulous construction, the equipment passed its trial run on the first attempt. This represents the finest reward for the hard work of all management, technical and construction staff, and serves as a powerful testament to the comprehensive technical capabilities of Haihui Group’s Dust Collector Division.
Subsequently, following three consecutive months of monitoring by a third-party testing agency, particulate emissions remained consistently below 10 mg/Nm³, fully meeting the ultra-low emission standards required by the design. The successful retrofit of this project represents a significant technical breakthrough: it has successfully overcome the industry-wide challenge of achieving ultra-low emissions through retrofitting of electrostatic precipitators in alumina calcining kilns, which had previously been difficult due to the complexity of the process. It has thus become a successful model within the industry for retrofitting electrostatic precipitators in alumina calcining kilns to achieve ultra-low emissions.
